The Capital Area Softball Organization is hosting a player evaluation for a competitive 10U team that will be competing in four (4) or five (5) tournaments in the spring & summer of 2017. The evaluation is open to any player in the Cap Area that: enjoys softball, likes to play at a competitive level, can participate in ALL tournaments, and has a 2006 or 2007 birthday . We will select a team of approximately twelve (12) players to participate in competitive tournaments next season. Although the tournament dates are not final at this point, they likely would be: (i) the Memorial Day week-end in Londonderry, which is a World Series Qualifier, with winning team competing in Nationals in Florida in August, (ii) Father’s Day week-end in Barrington (Grip-n-Rip), (iii) the Babe Ruth District Tournament tentatively the June 30th week-end, (iv) the Babe Ruth State Tournament (if the team qualifies), likely the July 1st week-end, and (v) one more summer adventure after these, possibly to an event with some light travel out of state. Approximate estimated cost per player for all events will be a directional, best guess range of $200-$300, although please know this is a ballpark. Manager Chad Duford will set the practice schedule after the Team is picked, although know it will contain a fairly relaxed (but regular) winter schedule at New England College (Henniker, NH), then a fairly light schedule during the recreational season (so as not to disturb the Rec schedule), and then likely a stronger practice commitment after the Rec season ends.
Evaluations are on Sunday November 6th at the Concord Sports Center Facility (off Exit 17, Concord) from 6:00-7:30PM. A second evaluation is set for Sunday November 13th also at the CSC and again from 6:00-7:30. This second session is for those that cannot make the first session and/or for those players that wish to evaluate for a second time. Registration for both events opens at 5:15.
For interested players that do not wish to commit to this schedule, or for players that may not be selected for this team, we anticipate, similar to last year, and presuming interest from players and coaches, that a second 10U team may be formed at the end of the Recreation season for more traditional involvement in tourney play (Babe Ruth Districts and, to the extent qualified, States). Please contact Ryan Taylor (firstname.lastname@example.org or cell phone 494.2672) with any interest, thoughts or questions. Plans & opportunities for 8U and 12U teams will form too as we get closer to the softball season!
For the second year in a row, the 8U Cap Area Softball Team became the NH STATE CHAMPIONS! The Merrimack County Savings Bank Cap Area 8U Softball All Stars completed a sweep (6-0) the last weekend in June in the Babe Ruth 8U State Tournament held in Barrington. With 12 teams competing in the Friday-Sunday event, the Cap Area squad battled through pool play games, going 3-0 and earning the #2 seed heading into Championship Sunday. After eliminating Lamprey River, the girls earned a hard fought, late game come from behind victory in the Semi-Finals by edging Windham, then earned their 2nd consecutive State Championship by defeating Barrington in the Finals. Congrats to the awesome girls, coaches and families of Cap Area! Pictured Front Row (L to R) Parker Steinberg, Tess Mulkerron, Farley Amrol, Avery Frazier and Ava Mailhiot.
